This free online course, offered by the School for Public Health at the University at Albany, State Universitiy of New York, covers the following:

the public health role in emergency response during an influenza outbreak or pandemic

how to recognize unusual events that might indicate an emergency and describe appropriate action

how to describe your functional role(s) in emergency response and apply flexible thinking to unusual challenges within your functional role.

This package integrates disaster safety and preparedness with science instruction, providing an engaging interactive learning environment. It also dovetails with science and safety content in the American Red Cross Masters of Disaster curriculum.
Middle school teachers face a tremendous challenge covering mandated learning objectives while also striving to provide meaningful enrichment and keep kids engaged. The Hurricane Strike! lessons help you do this with content and activities that support some of the core National Science Education Standards for middle school students.
