Events of the last decade, including Columbine, 9/11, SARS outbreak, West Nile Virus, Hurricane Katrina, and the threat of pandemics, have changed the world and caused us to re-evaluate how we manage our school campuses. Never before have the four basic tenants of emergency planning been so important: Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery.

Nassau BOCES is a nationally recognized leader in emergency planning and response for schools and, along with its County partners--Office of Emergency Management, Police Department, Health Department, and Department of Mental Health--will continue to support schools in all crisis management activities.
